The Ribbon Room

Several years ago, Corwin was lucky enough to be a resident artist at the Elsewhere Collaborative where he constructed a site-specific installation. Elsewhere is a museum born from Sylvia Grey's former thrift store, chock full of all the items she spent decades collecting. One thing she collected was ribbon--lots and lots of ribbon--that now sits both in the "Ribbon Room" on the second floor and in nooks and crannies throughout the museum. In an effort to emphasize the ribbon's connective nature and to bring it down to the publicly accessible first floor, Corwin built a trap door directly under the Ribbon Room using a system of ribbon pulleys. Corwin also reorganized the Ribbon Room (adapting previous reorganizations such as the spools on the wall) and made a wall drawing therein, transforming the physical ribbon into interstitial linework. In that wall drawing, he created a number of portals and invited both members of the community and artists from around the world to contribute pieces relating to the Ribbon Room to fill the spaces.
